Best Laid Plans

Sorry that we have not posted anything since Sunday when we started our adventure, but we are still at my house. We left Sunday morning about 6:00am and had bike problems before we got to Farmerville. With the help of some amazing friends (more on that later), we got the bike repaired and came back to my house for some rest and a fresh start this morning (Monday). We left my house about 5:30am this morning and got as far west as Grambling on I20 before a re-appearance of an electrical problem. We are taking Curt's bike to a dealer tomorrow and are working on a revised plan. At least I've been able to clear up some of the network problems that cropped up at my house before we left. We will update everyone as soon as we get out of Louisiana, or Curt gets ready to spin his tale of woe.
BTW, one of Curt's granddaughters has dubbed him Grumpy Bear, so this adventure is now going to be Grumpy Bear and Big Bear's Great Adventure. We hope to break 100 miles away from home before the week is out. Keep your fingers crossed and your prayers are certainly appreciated.
BB (GB will be allowed to add to this after he exits his deep two wheeled travel withdrawal depression...but BB will have final editorial approval).

Test Pack

Hhhmmmm! It's official. I have my wife AND Curt's wife on me about packing. I've not been completely idle in this regard. I did a test load this morning and road just over 30 miles to try a couple of suspension settings and test the feel of the bike. The picture indicates what the bike looks like loaded. There will be a few minor adjustments to the load, but this is pretty much it. I still need some time with Curt to check out our CB communications, but we should be able to get that done Friday evening or Saturday. Let's ride!

One week until departure

Well, my bride is fussing at me because I'm not packing. I still have a whole week to go. What's the big rush? Actually, it's about time for panic mode. So much to do...so little time!

Initial Comments

This is a first blog for me, so please pardon any rookie mistakes. I think you will notice that I am no writer. In two weeks, Curt Young and I will get on our motorcycles to begin a ride to Anchorage, Alaska. This trip has been envisioned and planned by Curt. We have been discussing this trip since September of 2009 when Curt first told me that I was going on a long motorcycle trip with him. Being retired does have it's advantages.
Several family members and friends have asked about being able to follow along on our journey, so this will be my attempt to provide some information to them. When we are near wi-fi hotspots and have time, I will try to update and add a few pictures to this site.
Our departure date and travel route have been somewhat fluid for the past few months as we have added a few extra days for side trips along the way. After we arrive in Anchorage, our lovely and extremely understanding brides will fly up for a week of sightseeing. We all hope to have a safe and exciting adventure. With that said...I hate packing. Riding is much more fun than all of this prep stuff!
